Woven Flax Effect Tutorial with Jo Orr

Equipment

  • Cake board
  • Woven flax mat (available from most florists)
  • Bakels Pettinice White & Brown
  • Dusting Brush
  • Fondant Knife
  • Rolling Pin

How to Steps

  1. For a 12" board use 375g White Pettinice & mix in 5% of Brown Pettinice
  2. This is the resulting colour (another option is to colour using Progel Cream Colour)
  3. Roll out Fondant to just over 4mm(1/8")
  4. Lightly spray your board with either water or a sugar syrup I like using a mix of 2Tbsp liquid glucose to 1/2 cup water
  5. Place fondant on board & smooth out any bubbles using a needle
  6. Place the mat over the fresh fondant and evenly roll over the board with enough pressure to get a good impression (Note: To prep mat over steam to sanitise)
  7. Imprinted
  8. Cut around the edge of the board. I find it easier to pick up the board & cut around the edge to achieve the following
  9. Using a dusting brush lightly dust over the imprinted fondant with Cocoa this will highlight the impression
  10. Add a ribbon around board to finish I used this effect on many cakes
